Good data is often a very abstract and theoretical discussion. It is also an excuse used by IT people to wash themselves of responsibility on the quality of the output. It seems reasonable to say if you give me garbage, how can you expect anything but garbage to come out? Data quality is a hot topic for every software project and while good data might be hard to define, bad data is much easier to identify. Once identified, preventing it should be the software architect's primary mission. In "Discovering FIRE" we will talk about how we developed an open source data model to prevent bad data, common characteristics of bad data and why bad data is largely due to a bad underlying data model.
